How we protect your data
South African insurance comparison sites have a deserved reputation for spam. We built the opposite: POPIA-compliant, no broker dumps, no surprise call-centre follow-ups, and a one-email deletion process.
POPIA-compliant by design
We're registered with the Information Regulator and process personal information lawfully under POPIA. Every form on the site has a clear purpose, retention period and consent moment — no buried opt-ins.
Who actually sees your details
Only the insurer(s) you explicitly select after seeing a comparison. Browsing the site, reading reviews and using calculators never sends data to an insurer. We don't sell, rent or 'syndicate' your information to brokers or lead aggregators.
Your right to be forgotten
Email privacy@compareinsurance.co.za and we delete every record we hold about you within 7 working days. We confirm in writing once it's done.
Storage and security
Personal information is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access is role-restricted to the small editorial and product team that needs it. We log every access event and review them monthly.
What we collect and why
- Account & quote details — only when you actively request a quote. Used to match you with the insurer(s) you selected.
- Anonymous analytics — page views, scroll depth, click events. Used to improve content. No personal identifiers.
- Optional review submissions — name and email, only if you choose to leave a public review.
Your POPIA rights
You can ask us, at any time, what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, withdraw consent, or lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator. Email privacy@compareinsurance.co.za for any of these.
What we promise we'll never do
- Sell, rent or syndicate your contact details.
- Send unsolicited cold calls or SMS marketing.
- Share your details with an insurer you didn't pick.
- Make deletion a paperwork exercise.
